Where should you go to find your next pet?
Look into rescuing a dog. Check your local shelter or rescue
organizations. Our rescue groups are maxed out with dogs.
You’d be surprised at how many pure bred dogs are up for adoption.
If you just want one of the best dogs you'll every have then a mixed
breed may also be for you. When choosing a companion that will love
you unconditionally does it really matter if it’s a pure bred? If
you’re really set on a certain breed make sure that you don’t buy
from a puppy mill. When going to a breeder make sure they show you
the mother and the dog’s living conditions. As long as people
support puppy mills the abuse of dogs and puppies will continue.

When getting a new
puppy it is often very tempting to get your new baby as soon as
possible but that is not the best thing for you and your pet in the
long run. Puppies need to remain with their pack until 7 weeks of
age,
no sooner! Your puppy needs to learn that it hurts to be bitten and
he needs his mother to teach him that biting is not okay. They also
need to learn how to be dogs by other dogs. Many dogs
that are adopted out before 7 weeks have aggression issues and can
rarely be corrected. Just 1 or 2 more weeks is all
you have to wait. Trust me it's the best
thing you can do for all involved!
Potty Training Tips
- Don't look on potty training puppies as the unpleasant or messy side of owning a puppy. Rather see it as the first stage of a bonding process. One that will result in a happy and healthy relationship. That is the real reward of house training a dog.
- Start potty training as soon as you get your puppy home. But remember they don't yet have full control of their bladder and bowel functions for the first 6 months or so.
- Feeding should take place at the same times every day. Do not feed within four hours of bedtime and withdraw the water bowl two hours before bedtime. A routine is essential.
- Take the puppy outside into the yard or for a walk first thing in the morning, 10 to 15 minutes after every meal or drink and last thing at night. Do not play with them until they have eliminated.
- If after 10 minutes there is no action take the puppy back to its crate. Wait 10 to 15 minutes then take them out again.
- Be sure to praise the puppy and reward them with a treat & little playtime every time it does "the business".
- Restrict your puppy to rooms with washable floors until he is house trained
- If your puppy has an accident - Only scold them if you see them do it. If you do catch them in the act then say "bad potty, no no", then put them outside, do not spank or hit your puppy.
Bell potty training - Bell training can be very helpful when potty training your puppy in addition to the other tips above.
Hang a bell (found in the bird section at local pet stores) from a string or thin ribbon from your door knob at a height that your puppy can reach.
Put peanut butter inside the bell.
When your puppy goes over to lick the peanut butter and they make the bell ring say good boy/girl and take them outside.
Wait to see if they go potty, if they do then praise and give them a treat.
Every time your puppy licks the peanut butter and makes the bell ring put them out tell them they are a good puppy lets go potty and praise if they do.
Use the peanut butter for 2 days, then clean the bell.
If they even accidently ring the bell tell them good puppy let's go potty.
Until they are trained take them out every hour or two to use the bathroom and try to get them to ring the bell before you go out.
Soon you will see your puppy ringing the bell to go outside whether they have to potty or not but that's ok, it's very important in the beginning especially to take them out every time they ring the bell.
Try to stay with them and catch them going potty outside and give them lots of praise and don't forget a treat.
Nutrition: It's just as important for your pet
to have a healthy balanced diet as it is for you. Good dog food will
help fight disease, overweight issues, cancer and other related
health issues that may shorten your dogs life or quality of life.
Please read and become informed. Responsible pet parents are asking
the question, "what is in my dogs dog food?"
Does your dog or cat go poo a lot?
Do they not like their food?
Do they throw up their food?
Do they have allergies or health issues or sensitivities?
A good quality dog food will not have corn, wheat or soy. These
items are fillers/by products and have no nutritional value to your
pet, they are excess waist that is not used and can cause digestive
issues, over eating and weight gain just to name a few.
I have done my research and have not found a food that compares with
the quality of ingredients without the crazy high price that comes
with some high quality food. Plus there is no other dog food company
that has the Life Source Bit. Look for yourself.

Bad Foods! - What's ok and what's not?
Don't over feed your pet! Don't feed your dog scraps! Watch how many
treats you give your pup. Keep your dog at a healthy weight and make
sure they get plenty of exercise. Overweight dogs are more likely
to get illnesses including diabetes among other life threatening and
life shortening diseases.
